Mike Gatch

Michael Gatch comes to UAB after a long career in pastoral care leadership and healthcare management.

He served as the first director of pastoral care at Lloyd Noland Hospital in Fairfield, AL. Later he served for two decades as Director of Geriatric Services, Pastoral Care and Special Projects at Medical West in Bessemer, AL.

He worked briefly as a Provider Education Consultant for Cahaba GBA, a medical contractor for Medicare Services for AL, GA and TN.

Michael completed his BA degree in Religious Studies from Palm Beach Atlantic University in West Palm Beach, FL. He completed his Master of Divinity degree at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY. After pastoring several churches in Mississippi and Alabama, Michael completed 4 units of CPE at Carraway Methodist Medical Center. Michael also completed a Master of Arts in Public and Private Management at Birmingham-Southern College.

Michael has served as Director of Mission Integration and Pastoral Care for the St. Vincent’s Health System and St. Thomas Health in Nashville, TN. Michael also completed a two year program in spiritual formation with the Epiphany Association in Pittsburgh, PA.

After a very brief retirement/sabbatical, Michael has returned to his first love to serve as staff chaplain at UAB. Michael is married to Fran Latham, a native of Alabama. They have one adult daughter and a Cavalier King Charles spaniel; their granddog.
