John Kennedy

John grew up in a small town in east Texas. He received BSEE and BS-Biomedical Engineering degrees from Southern Methodist University. He received his MD from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, then completed residency in Internal Medicine and fellowship in Pulmonary/Critical Care Medicine at UAB.

Subsequently, he has served in multiple roles on the faculty of the UAB School of Medicine and the Birmingham VA Medical Center. Currently he is the Director for Wellness in the Department of Medicine.

John has been active in the Episcopal Church for 40 years and is a member at St. Mary’s on the Highlands in Birmingham. In 2019 he completed a unit of Clinical Pastoral Education at UAB, and has been a volunteer Pastoral Care Associate since that time.

He is enrolled in the Education for Ministry program through the School of Theology at the University of the South. He is interested in pastoral care and support both for patients and for healthcare providers.

John is married, and he and his wife, Linda, have 2 adult sons. He enjoys running, reading and travel.
