Music Therapists

Twice a year UAB Pastoral Care and Music Therapists host a “Celebration of Life Service” in the middle of our hospital for families whose loved one passed away.

Like many events recently, on March 15, 2020, our “Celebration of Life Service” was cancelled.

Today, I asked two of our Music Therapists, Valorie Gochnauer and Abby Whitlock, to sing for our families and allow us to record it in our Interfaith Chapel so that we can share it with them, and with you.

The song is “The Heart of Life” by John Mayer.

I hate to see you cry

Laying there in that position

There’s things you need to hear

So turn off your tears and listen

Pain throws your heart to the ground.

Love turns the whole thing around

No, it won’t all go the way, it should

But I know the heart of life is good

You know it’s nothing new

Bad news never had good timing

But then the circle of your friends

Will defend the silver lining

Pain throws your heart to the ground

Love turns the whole thing around

No, it won’t all go the way, it should

But I know the heart of life is good.
