Sunelle Stander Lays, Part-Time Chaplain

Sunelle Stander (Lays) was born in Johannesburg, South Africa, and has been living in the USA since October 2016.

She studied at the University of Pretoria in South Africa to complete her Bachelors degree in Theology in 2011, as well as a Masters of Divinity degree in 2013.

After serving as an ordained minister of Word and Sacrament in the Dutch Reformed Church in 2014, she continued her studies at the University of Stellenbosch in South Africa where she graduated with a Masters degree in gender, health and theology in 2015. She is currently a part of a faith community in Birmingham.

Sunelle enjoys to go on hikes to relax, and has a passion for reading and learning about different cultures and groups of people. She also enjoys watching sports and taking her dogs on a jog.

Sunless hopes to be a source of support for the people whom she serves and regards the opportunity to be with others in their moments of vulnerability and hurt as a privilege and honor.
