How to Apply to CPE at UAB

We are now accepting applications for the August 2020 – September 2021 Residency group.

What are the minimum requirements for applying for Residency?

  1. Bachelor’s degree in a related field and two (2) years of service with a faith community required.
  2. A Master of Divinity degree or Master’s in Theological Studies is preferred.
  3. Work experience may not substitute for the minimum education requirement.
  4. Ordination, Commission or Licensure as a minister / faith leader or in the process of obtaining such status also preferred.

We are also accepting applications for the Certified Educator Candidate Position.

Requirements for CEC applications:

1.Master’s of Divinity or its equivalent .

2. Successful completion of ACPE Level 2 CPE outcomes. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.

3. Ordination or commission by one s faith group and denominational endorsement or compatible authorization from one s faith group to function as a chaplain.

4. Certification or eligibility to be certified by the Association of Professional Chaplains, the Association for Catholic Chaplains, or the Canadian Association for Spiritual and the National Association for Jewish Chaplains.

Applications are not considered until the three steps below are completed.

How should I apply?

  1. Fill out an electronic application by visiting uabmedicine.org/web/careers/search-open-jobs, click on “Search Open Jobs” under UAB Hospital, then click on “Search Openings,” and type in keyword “Certified Educator Candidate or Chaplain Resident.”
  2. Complete an ACPE application and mail it to Director of Spiritual Care & CPE, UAB Department of Pastoral Care, WP125, 615 18th ST S, Birmingham, AL 35249-6555.  Or you can download the application in Word format, write and attach it in an email to jdippenaar@uabmc.edu. The ACPE application can be found here in Word format or PDF format.
  3. Mail a $50.00 application fee. Make the check payable to “UAB Pastoral Care.
